Location and Hours

The San Francisco Law Library serves the public and the legal community at its centrally located library in the Civic Center, in the War Memorial Veterans Building across from City Hall.

Get directions to the Civic Center Law Library

The Law Library contains a comprehensive collection of San Francisco, California and federal materials as well as state statutes and digests for all 50 states. The California collection includes California law, reports, regulations, treatises, practice materials, forms, and law reviews, along with archived editions and other materials. The Federal collection includes the U.S. Codes and reports, the Federal Register and Code of Federal Regulations, as well as federal practice and procedure resources. The Library maintains a San Francisco collection of current and archived San Francisco Municipal Codes, ballot propositions, and other materials. An extensive Self-Help collection of materials written to assist non-lawyers, across many areas of the law, is also available.

The Law Library also has an extensive law journal collection, legal encyclopedias and forms, and general and core legal resources, advocacy and trial materials; and comprehensive resources on all major topics of American Law. Electronic and legal databases include the Law Library catalog & webpage, Westlaw, Lexis, Shepard’s, Fastcase, CEB Onlaw, HeinOnline, Dissomaster, Nolo Legal Information Reference Center, and Martin Dean Essential Court Forms.

Conference Room and Seminar Room are available at the Law Library.
